The ‘BULMANG (不忘: Do Not Forget)’ series is a solemn collection of historical records by artist Sung-ho Kwon, archiving the indelible scars of modern Korean history. Bearing witness to the tragic screams of the May 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement and the lifelong anguish of the ‘Comfort Women’ survivors, this collection fuses the restraint of traditional Eastern ink brushwork and pigments with modern Western color and spatial composition. The artist exposes the raw wounds of history, weaving a monument of remembrance and a warm sanctuary for the souls. “우리가 침묵한다면, 이 돌들이 소리 지를 것이다.”

새롭게 선보일 ‘불망 (不忘)’ 연작은 지워지지 않는 시대의 아픔과 역사의 엄숙한 증언을 화폭에 정직하게 새겨 넣는 권성호 작가의 역사 기록화 컬렉션입니다. 5.18 광주민주화운동의 그 뜨겁고 비극적인 오월의 함성, 그리고 식민지 역사 아래 무참히 짓밟혔던 일본군 ‘위안부’ 피해자 할머니들의 평생에 걸친 한(恨)을 담았습니다. 작가는 동양화의 전통적인 필묵과 채색 기법을 근간으로 하되, 서양화의 현대적인 색채와 공간 구성 기법을 융합하여, 아물지 않는 역사적 상처를 직시하는 동시에 그들의 고결한 넋을 보듬어 안습니다.
