母鄕然(母, 古鄕, 自然) 어머니와 고향을 품은 자연을 그리다
그림 그리는 길을 선택했던 시간과 무엇을 표현해야 할까? 고민하고 방황한 많은 시간이 어제 같습니다.
변화와 어려운 상황에도 붓을 놓지 않고 저의 인생을 그린 작품을 전시하게 되어 가슴이 벅차오릅니다.
“자유를 찾아서”란 작품은 군인들의 총칼 앞에 항거하며 싸웠던 영웅의 얼굴을 그린 작품으로 민주주의를 외쳤던 민주열사와 우리 시대 자화상입니다. 어렵게 이루어낸 우리의 민주주의는 위대한 유산이며 자랑입니다.
“가족”이란 작품은 가정을 이룬 후의 작품으로 흙으로 빚어진 남자와 비녀 위에 새가 앉아 있는 하얀 여인의 모습, 그 위에 묘지, 호기심 가득한 아이가 있는 작품으로 삶과 죽음이 자연의 동일 공간 존재하여 인간은 자연으로 돌아간다는 의미를 담고 있습니다.
현재는 희·로·애·락의 누워 있는 인체의 포즈를 통해 “자연의 향기”를 담고자 하는 작품을 하고 있으며, 자연의 향기인 ”하늘을 보다” 란 작품에는 고사된 소나무가 있는데 이는 모든 것이 영원함이 없고 생성·변화·소멸의 반복적 의미를 가지며 자연을 품, 어머니, 여인, 고향으로 보고 자연과 인간의 아름다움을 구상적으로 표현한 작품을 하고 있습니다.
누구나 그렇듯 각자의 인생이 있습니다. 살아온 인생이 다르고 상상의 원천도 다르다고 생각합니다.
저의 상상의 원천을 구상하고 표현하는 작업을 통해 작가의 정신과 무한한 인간의 능력을 표출하고자 노력 하고 있습니다.
저의 손때 묻은 작품을 몇 번의 이사 과정을 거치면서도 소중히 보관해 준 아내가 있어 좋습니다.
홀로 가는 외로운 길에 자연이 있고 혼자가 아닌 둘이고, 셋이고, 넷이고, 다섯이고… 그리고 저를 사랑으로 지켜봐 주신 여러분이 있어 외롭지 않게 길을 걷고 있습니다.
시리지만 공감하고 마음의 위안과 포근함을 느낄 수 있는 그림이었으면 합니다.

MoHyangYeon – 母鄕然, Portray Nature Embracing Mother and Hometown
It feels like just yesterday when I decided to walk the path of painting and wandered about what to express.
Even in difficult situations and changes, I didn’t let go of my brush, so my heart swells with pride as I exhibit artworks that depict my life.
The piece titled ‘Finding Freedom’ depicts the face of a hero who stood against and fought with the guns of soldiers. It is a self-portrait of a democratic martyr who shouted for democracy in our time. Our hard-earned democracy is a great legacy and pride.
“Family” is a painting created after establishing my family. It features a man sculpted from soil, a bird perched on a white woman’s hairpin(binyeo), a cemetery above, and a child full of curiosity. This symbolizes the coexistence of life and death within nature, emphasizing the human return to nature.
Currently, I’m endeavoring to capture the “scent of nature” through the poses and emotions of a lying human body. In “Looking at the Sky,” there is a withered pine tree, symbolizing the impermanence of all things and the cyclical nature of creation, change, and extinction. Thus, I view nature as an embrace, a mother, a woman, and a home, and figuratively express the beauty of both nature and humans.
Each of us has our own life. And I think the sources of imagination are as diverse as our own experiences are different. Through the process of shaping and expressing the source of my imagination in my artwork, I strive to demonstrate the artist’s spirit and the infinite ability of humanity.
I am grateful for my wife, who has cherished my artwork, even through several moves. There is nature on the lonely way, not alone, two, three, four, five of us…..And I am walking on a path that is not lonely because of all of you who have watched me with love.
I hope my works will be touching for you, and provide a sense of comfort and warmth in your heart.
